Civilizations

I’m fascinated by the civilizations that populated the Earth and their history, from rise to fall. The books on this shelf address one specific civilization, or a pattern among civilization, or even the history of all civilizations and the world. I could have called this shelf “History and geographies”, but this would be too generic. I’m really curious about what make a civilization, its culture and achievements. No surprise, I got addicted to Sid Meier’s video game Civilization when I was a student in the 1990’s 😉

I have a couple of favorite writers. The first one is Jared Diamond, who published riveting books like Guns, germs and steel: The fates of human societies, and Collapse: How societies choose to fail or succeed. The second one is Yuval Noah Harari, who published the best sellers Sapiens: A brief history of humankind, and Homo Deus: A brief history of tomorrow.
